2014年从美国纽约州立大学布法罗分校毕业,获传播学博士学位。先后任职于德州理工大学、拉玛大学。2018年回国,现就职于华南理工大学新闻与传播学院,教授、博士生导师。此外,我还担任学院网络传播系副系主任、广东省公众健康风险监测与信息传播中心(省级智库)副主任、中国新闻史学会健康传播专委会理事、SSCI期刊Asian Journal of Communication编委会成员等职务。
作为一名健康传播学者,我的研究关注健康信息设计与传播效果,重点研究如何通过信息设计提高公众在健康行为实施上的效能感。之所以将研究重点放在效能感上,是因为我认为许多时候人们不实施健康行为并非因为他们缺乏知识,而是因为他们不确定所谓的健康行为是否能降低健康风险(缺少反应效能),或者不确定自己能否完成这些健康行为(缺少自我效能),抑或是认为自己一个人无法扭转大环境(缺少集体效能),甚至是认为大环境没有给自己提供实施健康行为的条件(缺少外部效能)。因此,不同于许多国内的健康传播学者将重点放在健康科普上,我的研究重心在提升大家执行健康行为的信心。正如著名的心理学家Ed Diener被人们称为"快乐博士"(Dr Happiness),我希望我被人们称为"信心博士"(Dr Confidence)。
除了健康传播领域外,我的研究也拓展至科学传播、公共传播等领域。这是因为,从本质上而言,我的研究探讨的是公众与信息之间的关系,即公众和信息如何互相影响。例如,公众的心理特征如何影响信息的传播效果,信息的内容如何改变公众的认知和行为。这种研究思路使得我的研究可以适用于许多领域。
当然,作为一个生活在人工智能时代的人,我现在的研究也不可免俗地开始了拥抱智能传播。目前我和我的博士生正在开展人工智能+健康传播的研究。如果说我所做的健康传播研究关注的重点是信息内容,将人工智能与健康传播结合起来就意味着,我需要同时关注信息内容和信息传播渠道。希望这两者的结合能带来惊喜,也希望对此感兴趣的你加入我的研究团队!

科研理念
我不是坐在书斋里的学者,因为我认为研究的意义在于回馈社会。从整个社会体系运转的逻辑来看,高校并不直接创造价值,反而是接受社会的滋养。所以我才关注健康问题,因为健康关系到所有人的幸福,也是一个国家发展到一定程度的必然要求。我的研究注意到健康领域中社会支持效果的不平等,因为健康是每个人的权利不论贫富;我的研究注意到媒介环境对中国儿童不健康饮食的负面影响,因为个人的健康从来不只是个人的责任,更需要社会环境的支持。我希望我的研究不只是产出论文,更能够帮助到更多人,以微薄的一己之力推动社会的进步,以此回馈社会的滋养。
培养理念
从2019年开始,我已经指导了14名硕士生和3名博士生,其中已有7人毕业。我希望我的学生能成长为具有独立思考能力和研究能力的人,因为无论是否在学术界,思考和研究都是决定一个人职业发展高度的最重要的能力。因此,我的工作是引导他们发现自己的兴趣所长,教会他们如何发现问题、如何思考问题、如何搜集材料解决问题。我更希望学生在科研中发现自己的兴趣点,而非复刻我的研究志趣,因为虽然在我的团队中我是一个领导者,但我的职责并非培养追随者,而是培养未来的领导者。希望我的学生毕业后都能在他们各自的领域内成为领导者。
